One of the many shift schedules that meet your requirements is below. This schedule plan will require that we set up a rotation of 4 days on and then 4 days off. The employees will alternate between Day and Night shifts over a 16 day period to complete the pattern.

To accomplish this shift schedule we will be building a rotation of 4 teams, assigning 2 employees to each team.

To create a schedule file using Snap Schedule Employee Scheduling Software, follow these steps:

1) Create a new schedule file. Click here to see the video tutorial.

2) Create 8 employees and 4 teams. Assign 2 employees to each team.

3) Create two 12-hour shifts to cover the 24 hours of operation.

4) Using the Manage Shift Patterns command, create a new shift pattern as shown.

5) Using the Manage Schedule Plan, create a new schedule plan as shown below.

6) To generate employee work schedules (shift assignments) from this plan, click on the Generate Schedule button and follow the on-screen instructions. Once completed, review the schedule assignments and make adjustments as required. Use Snap Schedule Employee Scheduling Software to manage vacations, holidays, time offs, and to print and distribute work schedules.

First we’ll note that we have a total of 14 shifts to distribute throughout the week between the 3 employees. We will utilize a three week rotation so that each employee will receive the same average hours per week and will each have one full weekend off out of three. We also need to ensure we have an appropriate rotation between the morning, swing, and night shifts. Because of the mix of rotating 8 hr and 12 hr shifts, employess will not be working the same number of hours over the 3 week period.

To accomplish this shift schedule we will be building a rotation for 4 teams, assigning one employee to each team.

2) Create 4 employees and 4 teams. Assign each employee to their own team.

3) Create three 8-hour shifts for coverage for the Monday – Friday hours of operation. Next create two 12-hour shifts for the Saturday and Sunday coverage.

4) Using the Manage Shift Patterns command, create a new shift pattern as shown

I need a work schedule with 4 employees on the day and night shift each, 24/7. I also don’t want my employees to average more than 50 hours per week.”

We first draw attention to the fact that there are 28 night shifts and 28 day shifts that need to be covered per week. With 5 volunteer employees who must work nights, we will need to schedule some of the full-time employees on the night shifts as well. We will also need to make sure we properly rotate employees from day to night shifts.

To accomplish this shift schedule we will be building a rotation for 7 teams, assigning two employees to each team. One of the teams will need to include a full-time and a volunteer employee.

I would like my 5 employees to rotate from 2 weeks of day shifts to 3 weeks of night shifts.”

Because of the number of shifts available to fill per week (27) and the total number of employees (5), we’ll need to have at least two stretches of working 6 nights in a row. This will also make it so that employees will only have one day off in a week two times during the 5 week rotation. We’ll also try to work in weekends off into the rotation as well.

To accomplish this shift schedule we will be building a rotation for 5 teams, assigning one employee to each team.

This article shows you how to use Snap Schedule Employee Scheduling software to generate shift schedules to provide 24/7 coverage using 8 hour rotating shifts with employees average less than 40 hrs per week.

“I need to create a work schedule I require 2 employees per shift. I have 9 employees and they need to rotate through the shifts and each average less than 40 hours per week.”

One of the many shift schedules that meet your requirements is described below. In this work schedule we’ll look to rotate employees through the Day, Swing, and Night shifts over the course of 6 weeks. The employees will follow a pattern of 7 days working, followed by at least 3 straight days off. There will also be 3 employees who will only work on the Swing and Night shifts, but you could lengthen the rotation pattern if needed to provide them with some of the Day shift patterns.

To accomplish this shift schedule we will be building a rotation for 9 teams, assigning one employee to each team.

“I have patrol officers who are assigned routes in different areas of the city. How do I go about setting up their work schedules and find out if I have adequate shift coverage?”

The following article will cover how to use Snap Schedule Employee Scheduling Software to create a schedule which will allow for scheduling police patrol officers into different beats, districts, or areas of jurisdictions. You’ll first create the different patrol routes as locations in Snap Schedule and define which officers are authorized to work on these various routes. Then, you’ll create shifts for these different patrol routes for the times that you need officers on duty. To create the work schedule, simply select the employees and assign them to the appropriate shifts. Snap Schedule will warn you if a police officer is not authorized to work at a particular shift or beat (location). To find out if you have adequate shift coverage, use the Shift Coverage Planner located in the Shift view of Snap Schedule.

Let’s walk through an example for a fictitious police department with three different patrol routes that need to be patrolled 24/7 using three 8 hour shifts.

We’ll first want to create an individual location for each patrol route. Under the Manage tab, click on the Locations button in the top ribbon. After clicking on the “Create a New Shift Location” link, fill out the blank location form with the patrol route information.

After creating locations and authorizing your employees, we’ll now need to create the shifts for these patrol routes. Click on the Shifts button in the top ribbon and then click on the “Create a new Shift” link to open a blank shift form. Create the three 8 hour shifts for each patrol route that you have and set the location field for the appropriate shift location.

After creating shifts, under the Schedule tab click on the arrow underneath the Daily View button in the top ribbon and select Daily View by Shift. You’ll now see the shifts you’ve created on the left column of the schedule view. You can now drag-and-drop employees to assign police officers to these shifts for each day of the week. You can also customize the view by using the Sort and Filter options located just above the schedule view.

The Shift View is another variation of the Daily View by Shift, but also adds another helpful feature. In the Shift Coverage Planner at the bottom of the Shift View you can enter requirements for how many officers you need for each shift. In this example, we have different positions created so that you can easily see whether the shift schedule meets your demand for each level of command. The data from this Shift Coverage Planner can also be viewed in a graphical format in the Schedule Outlook if that view better meets your needs.

With this schedule configuration you can now easily schedule police officers for patrol routes, and by using the Shift Coverage Planner you can ensure that adequate police officers with the required skills and positions are scheduled for each shift.

This article shows a shift schedule with 8-hour shift, 4 week repeating shift pattern to give employees 4 days off over every 2 weeks, with one of the weekends off every 2 weeks.

“How do I create a work schedule for 8 hours a day, 7 days a week operation? I have 8 full-time employees and would like the shift schedule to last 4 weeks. I would like to have this 4 week repeating pattern to give employees 4 days off over every 2 weeks, with one of the weekends off every 2 weeks also.”

First we’ll note that the priorities of this schedule are to have the shifts evenly distributed throughout the week and ensure the employees have rotating weekends off. The goal is to also have the employees average around 40 hours per week over this 4 week period.

To accomplish this we will be building a shift schedule rotation for 4 teams, having 2 employees per team.

To create a schedule file using Snap Schedule Employee Scheduling Software, follow these steps:

1) Create a new schedule file. Click here to see the video tutorial.

2) Create 8 employees and 4 teams. Assign two employees to each team.

3) Create an 8-hour shift.

4) Using the Manage Shift Patterns command, create a new shift pattern as shown

5) Using the Manage Schedule Plan, create a new schedule plan as shown below.

6) To generate employee schedules from this plan, click on the Generate Schedule button and follow the on-screen instructions. Once completed, review the schedule assignments and make adjustments as required. Use Snap Schedule Employee Scheduling Software to manage vacations, holidays, time offs, and to print and distribute work schedules.

“I have employees who must rotate around various job positions and work areas (locations). How do I go about setting up their work schedules and find out if I have adequate shift coverage?”

This article will explain how to set up your employee work schedules using Snap Schedule. If you have employees who work in many different positions at various locations in your organization, you first define the work locations in Snap Schedule and who are authorized to work at each location. Then you create the shifts which will be used to represent the job responsibilities at each location. To create the work schedule, simply select the employees and assign them to the appropriate shifts. Snap Schedule will warn you if an employee is not authorized to work at a particular shift or location. To find out if you have adequate shift coverage, use the Shift Coverage Planner.

Let’s walk through an example for a sawmill operation.

We’ll first want to create an individual location for each responsibility so that we can authorize employees to perform certain job responsibilities. However, if all of your employees can perform all of the various responsibilities, then there’s no need to create these separate locations. Under the Manage tab, click on the Locations button in the top ribbon. After clicking on the “Create a New Shift Location” link, fill out the blank location form with the job responsibility information.

After creating locations and authorizing your employees, we’ll now need to create the shifts for the same job position. Click on the Shifts button in the top ribbon and then click on the “Create a new Shift” link to open a blank shift form. Create shifts for each job responsibility that you have and set the location field for the corresponding shift location.

If you have multiple shifts throughout the day, you need to create a separate shift for each shift time for each of the job responsibilities.

After creating shifts, under the Schedule tab click on the arrow underneath the Daily View button in the top ribbon and select Daily View by Shift. You’ll now see the shifts you’ve created on the left column of the schedule view. You can now drag-and-drop employees to assign employees to these shifts for each day of the week. You can also customize the view by using the Sort and Filter options located just above the schedule view.

The Shift View is another variation of the Daily View by Shift, but also adds another helpful feature. In the Shift Coverage Planner at the bottom of the Shift View you can enter requirements for how many employees you need for each shift. In this example, we’re showing just one job position in Snap Schedule so that you can easily see whether the shift schedule meets your demand. Obviously if you have other employee positions, you can definitely add those as well. The data from this Shift Coverage Planner can also be viewed in a graphical format in the Schedule Outlook if that view better meets your needs.

With this schedule configuration you can now easily move employees between responsibilities without having the limitations of the employee only being assigned one position. This also allows you to use the Shift Coverage Planner to ensure that all of your demands are met for having enough employees scheduled for each shift.
