24-48 Shift Schedule
The 24-48 shift schedule uses three teams (i.e. platoons) and three shifts to provide 24/7 coverage. It consists of a 3-day cycle where each team works one 24-hour shift followed by 2 consecutive days (48 hours) off duty.
48-96 Shift Schedule
The 48-96 work schedule has been gaining acceptance from fire departments and emergency medical services in the United States as a way to reduce the number of work days and the associated long commutes. This work schedule uses three teams (i.e. platoons) and three shifts to provide 24/7 coverage. It consists of a 6-day cycle where each team works two consecutive 24-hour shifts, followed by 4 consecutive days off duty.
Personnel work an average of 56 hours per week or 112 hours per two-week pay period, and work the same day of the week for 2 weeks in a row and then have that day off for 4 weeks in a row.
Kelly Shift Schedule
Very popular with fire departments and emergency services agencies, the Kelly shift schedule uses three teams (i.e. platoons) and three shifts to provide 24/7 coverage. It consists of a 9-day cycle where each team works one 24-hour shift, followed by 24 hours off duty, works another 24-hour shift, followed by 24 hours off duty, then works a final 24-hour shift, followed by 4 consecutive days off duty.
Personnel work an average of 56 hours per week or 112 hours per two-week pay period, and work the same day of the week for 3 weeks in a row and then have that day off for 9 weeks in a row.
3 Team Fixed 24 Plan
This is a fixed (no rotation) plan that uses 3 teams working 24-hr shifts to provide 24/7 coverage. Each team repeats the following sequence over a 63 day period: 1 day on, 1 day off, 1 day on, 1 day off, 1 day on, 4 days off.
Extended 12 Plan
This plan uses 3 teams and two 12-hr shifts to provide 24/7 coverage. Each team works 7 consecutive day shifts, 7 consecutive night shifts, then takes 7 days off
